The Creative Center at University Settlement Training Institute for Artists and Administrators in Creative Aging will be held on November 13-18, 2011 in historic Speyer Hall at the University Settlement!
This Institute will focus on the growing field of creative aging and will provide both a theoretical and didactic approach to implementing and sustaining high quality arts programming in a variety of settings serving older adults, from senior centers to long term residential settings for the frail elderly. Artists, as well as arts, senior center and nursing home administrators, will be given everything they need to implement and sustain an arts program in healthcare facilities, senior centers, residential settings, and other senior programs.
Presenters include Jeffrey Levine, MD, a leading geriatrician and award-winning photographer; Kerry Mills, former Regional Manager for the pioneering Hearthstone Alzheimer Care organization and currently CEO of Engaging Alzheimer's; Susan Perlstein, former director of Elders Share the Arts and currently a consultant and trainer for the National Center for Creative Aging; Joan Jeffri, former coordinator of the graduate program in Arts Administration and director and founder of the Research Center for Arts and Culture at Teachers College, Columbia University in New York City; Margaret Peot, painter, printmaker, and author of Make Your Mark: Explore Your Creativity and Discover Your Inner Artist and The Inkblot Book: Drip, Splat, Squish Your Way to Creativity and many other notable and exciting leaders in the field. Art-making workshops and field trips will occur throughout the week!
