"On May 5, 1999, I heard the words so many have heard: 'I'm sorry to say that it's malignant.' In my case, it was breast cancer. Since that day, every line I make pulls me forward towards life and hope.I think of these small paintings as 'paintings in the middle' of being made. The figures in them are caught in the process of changing into something other than what they are. I like to have a raw, to-be-continued quality in my work."
